Social Urbanistics:  Social Science Explorations of Contemporary Urbanisms

Now that more than half the world’s population lives in urban environments there are many challenges to the effective urban design and use of towns and cities. The social sciences have much to offer to help shape the future or urban living. Papers are therefore invited that explore, from an empirical basis, any aspect of urban living.  Evidence based design and planning research is especially welcome. This may range from micro, meso to macro scale issues, such as the introduction of neighbourhood public space, leisure behaviour in developing countries, or large-scale considerations such as changing patterns of settlement and transportation within and between cities.

Original papers, including quantitative and/or qualitative studies, case studies, or critical reviews, and original theoretical contributions, from any of the social and behavioural sciences, and related disciplines, focusing on contemporary urbanisms in towns and cities are invited for this special issue.

Manuscripts should follow the usual instructions for submission of papers to Contemporary Social Science. When submitting papers authors should select this theme from the pull-down menu so that it will be reviewed for inclusion in this issue.

The Guest Editor for this issue is Tigran Haas [email protected] Associate Professor at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Director for the Centre for the Future of Places, Stockholm. He would be happy to review plans for papers in advance of their receipt. All papers will be peer reviewed.

OPEN ACCESS:  all papers of high quality will be eligible for funding to pay for them to be published as fully Open Access if the author has no other funding for this.

DEADLINE: The closing date for submissions is January 30th 2018
