Dr Rita Gardner CBE FAcSS awarded RGS-IBG prestigious Patron’s Medal

4 May 2021

Congratulations to our Chief Executive, Dr Rita Gardner CBE FAcSS on being awarded the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG)’s Patron’s Medal. Rita is one of two awardees of the Royal Medals (the Patron’s Medal and the Founder’s Medal), the second being the Chair of the British Caving Association, Andy Eavis. The Royal Medals, which are of equal standing, have been presented since the 1830s and have been approved by Her Majesty The Queen. They are among the highest honours of their kind in the world.

“Warmest congratulations to Rita on receiving the Patron’s medal. The Academy of Social Sciences is delighted that the work over so many years of our Chief Executive is being recognised not only in the academic discipline of geography but across the social sciences more broadly. Rita is an exemplary advocate for the social sciences and we couldn’t be prouder that she joins luminaries such as Sir David Attenborough, Dame Fiona Reynolds and Lindsey Hilsum in receiving this honour!,” says Professor Roger Goodman FAcSS, President, Academy of Social Sciences.
