Fellows and Learned Societies gather in Edinburgh for the 2017 President’s Lunch
19 December 2017
80 Fellows, Learned Societies and their guests gathered at the Royal Society of Edinburgh on 14th December to enjoy the social highlight of the Academy’s year – the President’s Lunch. Participants enjoyed socialising over drinks before a convivial lunch. Professor Sir Ivor Crewe FAcSS, President of the Academy, welcomed everyone to the lunch and set out some of the Academy and Campaign achievements from the past year.
The original speaker, Deputy First Minister John Swinney, had to pull out at short notice when it was announced that the Scottish government would publish its Budget the same day. Happily Gary Gillespie FAcSS, Chief Economic Advisor to the Scottish Government, stepped up and talked about his work and social science in the Scottish government.
Following the talk, new Fellows were presented with certificates by the President.
