Seven Academy Fellows conferred with Public Honours in the New Year 2019 Public Honours List

The Academy of Social Sciences is delighted to announce that seven of our Fellows have been conferred with Public Honours in the New Year 2019 Public Honours List.

Professor Madeleine Atkins
Professor Madeleine Atkins CBE FAcSS has been awarded a DBE for services to higher education. Madeleine Atkins is a former vice-chancellor of Coventry University, and, from 2014 to 2018, the Chief Executive of the Higher Education Funding Council for England. In 2018 she was appointed as the Ninth President of Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge.

Professor Fiona Devine
Professor Fiona Devine OBE FAcSS has been awarded a CBE for services to the social sciences. Fiona Devine is a professor of sociology at the University of Manchester and Head of The Alliance Manchester Business School.

 Professor David Livingstone
Professor David Livingstone OBE FBA FAcSS has been awarded a CBE for services to scholarship in Geography, the History of Science and to Intellectual History. David Livingstone is Professor of Geography and Intellectual History, Queen’s University Belfast.

Professor Alison Park
Professor Alison Park FAcSS has been awarded a CBE for services to the social sciences. Alison Park is Director of Research at the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).

Bridget Rosewell
Bridget Rosewell OBE FAcSS has been awarded a CBE for services to the economy. Bridget Rosewell is an economist, Commissioner, National Infrastructure Commission and a non-executive director of various organizations.

Professor Helen Margetts
Professor Helen Margetts FAcSS has been awarded an OBE for services to social and political science. Helen Margetts is the Programme Director at the Alan Turing Institute and Professor of Society and the Internet and Professorial Fellow of Mansfield College at the University of Oxford.

Professor David Martin
Professor David Martin FAcSS has been awarded an OBE for services to geography and to population studies. David Martin is Professor of Geography at the University of Southampton.
