Vacancy – Chief Executive of UK Research and Innovation
September 2, 2016
The UK research and innovation funding landscape is about to undergo the most significant reform of the last 50 years.
A new funding body – UK Research and Innovation – is being established to bring together the nine existing Government funding bodies. UKRI will provide overall strategic direction, representing the sector’s interests globally, and maximising the value of a Government investment in research and innovation which totals more than £6bn per annum. It will ensure that the research and innovation system across the whole of the UK has the strategic capacity, the autonomy, and the agility to maintain our world-leading strength in discovery and innovation.
The Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy is now looking to appoint UKRI’s first Chief Executive. The Chief Executive will be vital to the success of UKRI. Working closely with Ministers, the interim Chair, and stakeholders across the sector, they will establish the new organisation, building vital relationships, developing strategy, and putting the working model for the new system in place. They will shape and lead a high-profile, pioneering new organisation.
This is a high-profile, globally important role, and we are seeking candidates with the experience and personal characteristics to command credibility. The successful candidate will be someone of high, personal scientific or research standing with a track record of senior leadership, the ability to lead a globally-facing organisation, and a personal commitment to the success of UK Research and Innovation.
