The What Works National Adviser will provide direct advice to Ministers, the Cabinet Secretary and other leaders in Government on what good evidence shows to be both effective and cost-effective in delivering policy outcomes. As Chair of the What Works Council, the postholder will ensure that the roll out of What Works is delivered at pace and that centres meet the high standards required to be accredited and remain as designated centres. They will catalyse the dissemination of evidence on a range of social policy areas in a form that is simple to access, understand and apply – leading to better policy interventions, outcomes and value for money in public services at both national and local level.
The successful candidate will have three main responsibilities: supporting the development of the What Works Centres; advising Ministers; and, promoting social science through What Works.
