Professor Roger Goodman FAcSS is Nissan Professor of Modern Japanese studies, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Warden of St Antony’s College at the University of Oxford. Professor Goodman’s research is focussed on the social and educational policy of modern Japan. He was Head of the Social Sciences Division at Oxford between 2008 and 2017 which, with around 1,000 academics, is one of the largest groupings of social scientists in the world. He became Chair of the Academy in July 2015. He took up the combined role of President and Chair in January 2020, as approved at an Extraordinary General Meeting in 2018.
